The Peculiar Case of Doctor Mamo’s Surgery

In a remote corner of Africa, Doctor Mamo’s medical practice stood as the sole beacon of healthcare for a vast area, serving the residents of three neighbouring districts within a twenty-five-kilometre radius. One day, Jeremy entered the doctor’s practice having developed a severe condition where his hands were trembling uncontrollably. The nurse at the reception directed him to take a seat on one of the chairs lining the outside of the doctor’s consultation room.

No sooner had he plonked himself in the seat nearest the door, when a second patient entered. His condition was one where he continually couched and sneezed. He was told to sit in the chair next to Jeremy. As he sat down, an unusual phenomenon occurred. He stopped Coughing and sneezing. However, poor Jeremy’s troubles compounded; not only did his hands continue their relentless trembling, but he now also found himself seized by violent coughs and sneezes. In the meantime, the second patient leaped to his feet, exclaiming, “I’ve been healed!” and ran out of the surgery.

Not long after that patient number three entered and was shown to be seated next to Jeremy. Patient number three had a peculiar head condition, one of, consistent nodding as if in perpetual agreement. Just as he got comfortably seated, his head stopped nodding back and forth. Poor Jeremy was now sitting there, his hands trembling, coughing and sneezing and now also nodding his head in a back-and-forth motion. Patient number three jumped up and exclaimed loudly, ”My condition is cured!” He might have gone down in history as the first man to have fallen pregnant.

A few minutes later, a pregnant woman entered the waiting area. Before she could even take a seat, Jeremy, his hands still trembling, his head still nodding, and still coughing and sneezing, sprang to his feet. Filled with panic, Jeremy jumped up exclaiming, “I’m definitely not sitting beside the pregnant woman!” Jeremy may have gone down in history as the first man to have been pregnant.

Now, before any of you inquire about the location of this extraordinary practice, hoping to receive either miraculous healing or, perhaps, a transfer of ailments, let it be known: That peculiar surgery has since been shut down.
